We want our students to feel part of our special yoga community throughout all the stages of their life.
What is Seniors Yoga?
Seniors Yoga is a gentler form of hatha yoga for people sixty years and over, that is taught in a safe and nurturing environment. Throughout the class, postures are modified to acknowledge the changes that age brings while still enabling our senior students to continue practicing the yoga they love.
The emphasis is placed on moving, simple stretching and breathing with awareness. There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere during classes, which has created a lively community spirit enjoyed both in the class and beyond.
Who is Seniors Yoga Suitable For?
Seniors Yoga is suitable for men and women aged sixty years and over. We even have many seventy and eighty year olds regularly attending our Seniors classes. Students don’t need to be flexible, able to sit cross-legged or have a calm mind. The focus is really on working with the body just the way it is.
Seniors yoga classes are suitable for those choosing or needing to let go of stronger exercise or sport; those transitioning from careers into retirement; those looking for greater flexibility, strength and balance; and those finding themselves in stressful life situations.
All that’s needed is a willingness to give it a go, and a sense of humour as we realise we’re all dealing with the same thing – aging!
Is Prior Yoga Experience Required?
No prior yoga experience is needed to practice Seniors Yoga. Beginners are most welcome! All students have the freedom to practice in whatever way works for them and their bodies.
Seniors Yoga introduces the physical postures (asana) in a gentle way that releases tightness and tension. Each asana is designed to slowly and carefully bring ease and more flexibility, making it perfect for those who haven’t exercised in a while or whose bodies are feeling stiff and sore.
What Happens in a Typical Class?
Each Seniors Yoga class begins with some gentle breathing, before beginning approximately 30-40 minutes of gentle exercise (asana). The asana practice is followed by 10 minutes of simple breath awareness, 15 minutes of relaxation (lying down) and 10 minutes of meditation.
The classes involve both sitting and lying on the floor, as well as standing, so it is necessary to be able to get up and down off the floor in whatever way works. There is no pressure or rush to move off the floor, just taking whatever time is needed.

Seniors Yoga classes create a space to be with like-minded people of the same age. Our classes instantly put students at ease, helping them to feel calm and centred.
These classes create change on all levels, bringing feelings of vitality, positivity and confidence. And, with regular practice, students experience greater strength, flexibility and mental clarity.

If you have any medical conditions or concerns, we always recommend seeking your doctor’s approval before commencing classes. Any of your concerns can be discussed with us when you come in for you first class, or beforehand over the phone or in person.
